The University of Miami purchased the Macy’s furniture and mattress store in Pinecrest for $40 million. The expectation is the private university expects to use the building, which is on 4.6 acres, to expand its healthcare network. It’s located near the Falls Mall and a Publix.
The Coral Gables-based private, non-profit university has an extensive healthcare network through its Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and the University of Miami Health System, which most recently expanded to Downtown Doral and North Miami.
The 77,800-square-foot retail building at 13251 S. Dixie Highway was the third showroom the retailer has sold in South Florida this year. It similarly spun off stores in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.
