Skanska Completes UVA Alderman Library Renovation

Skanska has completed the restoration and expansion of the historic Alderman Library at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. The project involved historically rehabilitating 100,000 square feet of the main library, originally built in 1938, and constructing a new six-story, 130,000-square-foot concrete addition.

Key enhancements include a new north entrance facing University Avenue, an updated south entrance, restoration of historic rooms, windows, and exterior elements, improved space for humanities and social sciences students, and the installation of study courtyards and skylight assemblies.

“I’m so proud of our team as they bring this historic renovation to a close. The meticulous attention to detail and the craftsmanship required to complete this job are unmatched, said Mark Balling, executive vice president and general manager for Skanska’s North Carolina and Virginia building operations. “This library is one of Virginia’s most dynamic projects.”
