Selig Properties has submitted a plan to the City of Boca Raton, seeking to alter and expand its footprint at the 23-acre Palmetto Park Square. In what is increasingly becoming a national trend, Selig is looking to build 319 rental apartments in the middle of the retail property and move a currently operating Publix to a nearby shuttered Kmart building, increasing the supermarket’s size by 70%. The current Publix is 28,000 square feet. The Kmart building is 100,000 square feet. The center is just east of I-95 on Palmetto Park Road.
The company would designate 10 percent of the residential units as affording housing and another five percent workforce housing.
Built in the 1970s, Palmetto Park Square currently has 196,200 square feet of retail. The center is just east of I-95 on Palmetto Park Road. Selig has owned the shopping center since 1982.
